Built Around Throughput, Cold Chain Integrity, and Long-Term Reliability

CSDS exists to help food processors, distributors, and foodservice operators make better project decisions before expensive mistakes get built into the space. We design, engineer, and blueprint cold storage environments and food processing plants that support real operating conditions, not just ideal drawings.

What Drives Us

Our work is guided by operational practicality, technical coordination, and a commitment to decisions that remain useful after handover.

Operational Empathy

We plan around the realities of production, receiving, cold storage access, sanitation, and peak-throughput pressure.

Technical Coordination

We connect layout, refrigeration, blueprinting, utilities, ventilation, and compliance-related requirements so the project works as a whole.

Accountability

Clients need clarity, realistic recommendations, and follow-through. We approach each scope with that standard in mind.

About visual

A Partner Who Thinks Beyond the Drawings

Operators come to CSDS when they need more than generic product supply. They need a partner who understands what happens after turnover: rush periods, breakdown risk, cold chain integrity, staffing realities, inventory pressure, inspection readiness, and the cost of poor coordination.

  • Experience across design, blueprinting, refrigeration engineering, retrofit planning, and project coordination
  • Recommendations shaped by operational performance, not just first-cost decisions
  • Clearer guidance on scope, phasing, and project readiness
  • Strong attention to code-sensitive cold storage and food processing conditions
  • Documentation and handover thinking that supports ongoing use
  • A consultative approach suited to owners, operators, developers, and project teams alike

A passion for Controlled Atmosphere

The Controlled Atmosphere expertise behind CSDS traces back more than three decades — to a group of engineers who set out to fundamentally improve how fruit is stored. That legacy of CA research, field experience, and equipment development is what we bring into every cold storage and CA project we take on today.

The founding idea

In the early 1990s, a new era began in Eastern European fruit growing. Outdated storage rooms needed modern CA technology, and three experienced CA specialists saw the opportunity to rebuild the fundamentals from the ground up — developing the first prototypes of Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) nitrogen generators, double-drum CO₂ scrubbers, and automated CA controls. Those innovations became the backbone of modern CA storage.

A technological revolution in CA

Over the following three decades, the CA technology we work with matured into the most energy-efficient VSA N₂ generation on the market, double-vessel CO₂ scrubbers capable of running at very low oxygen setpoints, the introduction of DCA (Dynamic Controlled Atmosphere) systems, and purpose-built gas analyzers. Custom software and diagnostic systems made remote monitoring and rapid response routine, not exceptional.

In-house manufacturing and quality control

Bringing production in-house meant every CA installation could be built to a consistent quality standard. A dedicated quality control system, combined with a global dealer and service network, enabled delivery into more than 35 countries while keeping performance tight.

Scaling to meet global demand

Rising demand for CA equipment led to multiple expansions of production capacity and facilities, supporting large keeping complexes, multi-room DCA installations, and faster lead times on high-complexity projects.

Bringing that CA depth into the Canadian cold chain

CSDS carries this CA engineering heritage into Canadian cold storage, produce, and food-processing projects. We plan, engineer, and deliver cold storage, walk-in, food processing, and Controlled Atmosphere facilities that are built to run — and built to hold quality through a full storage campaign.

CA technology in other markets

The same CA engineering also solves problems outside produce storage — oxygen-reduction fire prevention, altitude training rooms for athletes and rehab, and CATT chemical-free insect treatment. It’s a reminder that CA is ultimately about precise control of an atmosphere — and precise control has many useful applications.
